At a time when the crises of capital have become planetary – pandemic, war, climate catastrophe, the destruction of public infrastructures, and the privatisation of life itself – the question of internationalism returns with renewed urgency. The belief in the transnational was never merely a romantic utopia; it has always been a material practice of connection between struggles, bodies, and hopes. From Esperanto as the language of a community yet to come, through the networks of the Comintern, to the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War: whenever the world threatened to disintegrate into nationalist barbarism, a counter-movement of cooperation, collective care, and cross-border solidarity emerged.

Today, we find ourselves at a comparable historical juncture. Against fragmentation, against competition and enclosure, we must build the infrastructure of a new cosmopolitanism: networks of knowledge, care, and political agency. Not as an abstract morality, but as the concrete organisation of the multitude – for global problems can be met only through global solidarity. A strategic point of departure for social movements has always been, and remains, the insight that real utopias are needed as peninsulas against the current if a socialist future is to become imaginable. Today, in times of social polarisation and reactionary backlash, we additionally need left social infrastructures as foundational projects that make solidarity tangible in everyday life and help restore trust. Democratically governed health centres rooted in neighbourhoods are one such glimmer of hope. They form bastions of solidarity as counter-hegemonic structures of power and bridgeheads against an increasingly authoritarian turn.

To discuss this responsibility and strategic direction in these times of global upheaval, we are delighted to welcome you to the 5th INOSC in Hamburg! We look forward to unending discussions, to new forms of sisterhood and comradeship, to long nights at the bar at the gateway to the world, and to the tenderness of a new post-national International.

“The multitude is capable of creating a new world because it is already producing it in its forms of cooperation.”
Antonio Negri

In this spirit:
Onwards to Hamburg, onwards to new cooperations!
